Dussehra marks the end of the evil king, Ravana. The great ancient Hindu epic, Ramayana shares the story of Lord Rama killing Ravana after he kidnapped his consort, Mata Sita. Dussehra falls on the tenth day of Ashwin month according to Hindu calendar. It is popularly celebrated in the northern, southern and western states. Meanwhile, the day is celebrated as Vijayadashami as the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasur in eastern and northeastern states.
